A Conversation with our Director

Dear Parents,

Thank you for your interest in the Montessori Academy at Belmont Greene (MAB, for short). We hope that you will join us in a special partnership for the education and development of your child.

MAB offers a complete Montessori curriculum for students from age 8 weeks through 11 years. As our students continue to grow, so has our facility. Though the original 10,000 square foot building is less than three years old, we have already added another 5,000 square feet including five new classrooms, an elementary wing, a gymnasium, library and a beautiful wooded playground. The facility has been designed based on my 21 years of experience in Montessori education including as a founding partner in l996 of the Montessori Children's House of Loudoun in Sterling, VA.

A closer look and you will find that we are more than just a wonderful place for children, but we are also a strong community of parents and teachers who are dedicated to Montessori and the enrichment of not just our children, but each member of the MAB family--and a family is exactly what we are. My son is the Head of School Administration, and my husband is one of our elementary teachers. Our teachers and staff are an extension of this family, as is each child and parent who walks through our doors.

We understand that choosing a school for your child is an important decision. In order to assist your consideration, I thought it might be helpful to answer some of the most common questions we have heard from parents at recent open house events and tours.

Quality teachers and staff are the key to successful Montessori schools. Tell me more about your staff?

I have been fortunate in being able to recruit a gifted team of Montessori teachers and staff who are the heart of our loving, child-centered school environment. Many of our staff members have been with the school even before our building was originally completed in 2001. For more information on our staff, please visit the "Meet our Staff" page.

What is your maximum class size at MAB?

My experience demonstrates the importance of class size in successful Montessori education. Consequently, we are committed to a maximum class size of 25 students in our primary rooms and all classes will have a Montessori teacher and one assistant. Within the 25 students, each class should have an even mix (approximately eight or nine) of each age group from three to five years old.

Is space available?

MAB enrolls throughout the year from July through April. If a space is not available in one of our classrooms, parents may place their names on our waiting list by submitting the application, which may be printed from this website.

Does MAB offer a partial week program for children?

All of our programs are five days per week. Consistent participation in the Montessori class throughout the week allows for the child to quickly integrate and become a full member of the classroom family. Interacting with other children and the teacher allows the child to fully participate in and benefit from the Montessori curriculum. While I fully understand the natural reluctance of parents to enroll children for what seems like a long week, children adapt quickly and develop wonderfully in a three-hour daily Montessori environment. We would be pleased to discuss the specific needs of your child. Please contact MAB Administrator Bart Theriot by phone at (703) 729-7200 to check on availability.

Where is MAB located?

We are fortunate to have found a location for MAB on a 3-acre wooded campus adjacent to a wetlands preserve in Belmont Greene in Ashburn, VA. The school is at the corner of Portsmouth Boulevard and Winkle Drive. Belmont Greene is conveniently located on Belmont Ridge Road (VA 659), 1.5 miles south of Route 7, the main east west route in Loudoun County and 1.5 miles north of the Greenway, an expressway connecting Leesburg to Tysonテ不 Corner and onward to I 66 and Washington D.C.

Belmont Greene is the first "Traditional Neighborhood Development" in Northern Virginia. MAB fits perfectly in this unique "walking community" designed for pedestrians, not automobiles. Belmont Greene includes mixed generational neighborhoods, numerous small parks and soon village shops all connected by footpaths and tree lined sidewalks. The Washington Old Dominion Bike Trail is the northern border of Belmont Greene. We see marvelous opportunities for Montessori activities for the children around Belmont Greene.
